SEPTEMBER 2015

Our most recent findings on chemotherapy-induced heart damage have been highlighted by the University of British Columbia and the Child and Family Research Institute.

 

OCTOBER 2014

CPNDS investigators have had two Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) team grants renewed (2014-2017), as part of the Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network (DSEN) Collaborating Centre for Prospective Studies. The Active Surveillance and Evaluation of Adverse Reactions in Canadian Healthcare (DSEN SEARCH) team will build on the existing national network of active surveillance clinicians across Canada.  The Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network (DSEN) Pharmacogenomics of Adverse Events National Team (PREVENT) also builds on our previous work using pharmacogenomics to predict and prevent severe adverse drug reactions.

JANUARY 2012:Our post-doctoral fellow, Dr. Ricardo Jimenez-Mendez was awarded the Distinction of being a Member of the National System of Investigators by the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology.

SEPTEMBER, 2011: Our Masters student, Kusala Pussegoda received Best Poster Award at the Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine Conference. “Pussegoda K, Ross CJ, Visscher H, Yazdanpanah M, Brooks B, Rassekh R, Carleton B, Hayden M & the CPNDS Consortium (2011). Replication of TPMT genetic variants highly associated with cisplatin-induced hearing loss in children. Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine Conference (Hinxton, UK.)”

Our PhD student, Kaarina Kowalec was awarded a Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada Travel Award to attend the Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine Conference (Hinxton, UK.)

AUGUST 2011: Our post-doctoral fellow, Dr. Ricardo Jimenez-Mendez was awarded a travel award from the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) to present results from our work on Asthma at the ISPE Annual conference.

JUNE 2011: Our Masters student, Kaitlyn Shaw received Best Poster Award at the CFRI Student Research Forum. “Shaw K, Amstutz U, Hildebrand C, Rassekh SR, Braun J, Ross C, Hayden, Carleton B. Pharmacogenetics of Warfarin in Children. Vancouver, BC. Presented on June 16 2011.”

APRIL 2011: Our post-doctoral fellow, Dr. Ricardo Jimenez-Mendez was awarded the Drug Safety and Effectiveness Cross-Disciplinary Training (DSECT) Program Fellowship. This is a CIHR funded program to train future researchers in drug safety and effectiveness.

Our PhD student, Kaarina Kowalec was awarded a Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) Doctoral Research Award for three years to investigate drug-induced liver injury in patients with Multiple Sclerosis.
